7 Red Flags of a Fake Chatting Agency (and how they rob creators)

Half this industry is a Discord server in a trench coat. Cheap overseas chat farms are quietly skimming creators blind. Here are the seven tells, from someone who has cleaned up after every one of them.

What a bad month costs a whale account

I am going to make enemies with this one, and I do not care. The chatting industry is crawling with operations that should not exist, and creators keep handing them the keys because the price is low and the pitch is smooth. Then we get the panicked email three months later, after the whale has churned and the inbox is a graveyard. So let me save you the email. Here are the seven red flags.

1. They quote you a price before they have seen your numbers

A real team wants to see what it is working with before it talks money, because the whole model is performance. An outfit that fires off a flat rate in the first message has one product, and it is not your revenue, it is your retainer. They get paid whether you grow or not. Run.

2. They cannot tell you who is actually in your DMs

Ask who handles your account. Ask for the rotation, the shift coverage, the QA process. If you get vague reassurance instead of specifics, it is because the answer is “whoever is awake in the group chat.” You are trusting strangers with your income and your fans’ trust. You deserve names.

If they will not tell you who is typing as you, assume the worst, because the worst is usually what is typing.

3. The pitch is all growth and no retention

Cheap farms love to talk about blasting new subs because new subs are easy to promise and impossible to hold accountable for. They go quiet on retention, on whale custody, on upsell skill, because that is the hard part and they cannot do it. A following is not a business. Keeping the spenders is.

4. No data, no reporting, no baseline

If an agency cannot show you your starting number and report against it, they are hiding the fact that they are not moving it. Real operators are obsessed with the baseline because beating it is the entire job. Vague “trust us, it’s working” is the sound of nothing working.

5. They want long contracts and big lock-ins

A team that performs earns the renewal every month and does not need to trap you. Long lock-ins exist to protect agencies from the consequences of being bad. The confidence to let you leave is the clearest signal that you will not want to.

6. The English is a coin flip

This is not snobbery, it is math. If the chatter cannot pass as your creator, the fan feels it, and a fan who feels the seam stops spending. Cheap farms cut the one corner that matters most: people who can actually hold a convincing, fluent, in-voice conversation. The savings are an illusion. The lost whales are real.

7. They sound exactly like every other agency

Generic pitch, stock promises, the same three buzzwords everyone uses. If they cannot sound like a distinct human in a sales call, they will not sound like a distinct human in your inbox either. This work is voice. An operation with no voice has nothing to sell you but a discount, and the discount is the most expensive thing you will ever buy.

If you have already hired one of these and the damage is done, that is fixable. It is literally a service we offer, because we got tired of watching good accounts get wrecked by bad ones.

Data is nice. Receipts are better.
